“What is the most effective way to use TTB.gov’s search box to locate specific content on the site?

If you've ever felt like you need to search for information about how to search, TTB.gov is here to help!

Tips for better searches:

  • Keep it simple.
  • Use the words that are most likely to appear on the page.
  • Describe what you need with as few terms as possible.
  • Choose descriptive words.

TTB.gov uses the Google Search Appliance (GSA) which provides users with fast, highly relevant results and allows all Web site content be searched through one easy, familiar search box. Through the GSA, we can ensure that our Web site search engine can be as relevant and reliable as Google's – and just as easy to use.

Which brings us to the heart of the question: What is the most effective way to use TTB.gov's search box to locate specific content on the site?

Well, search is supposed to be simple. You type whatever comes to mind in the search box, hit Enter (or click on the TTB.gov Search button), and most of the time you'll find exactly what you were looking for with this basic query.

However, sometimes you need a little bit more power. As part of TTB's continuing effort to make TTB.gov more informative and visitor-friendly, we maintain a Search/Navigation Help section that offers handy information about methods for locating specific content, and explains the different ways you can move around within the site.
