Chief Information Officer/Assistant Administrator (Information Resources)
Robert (Bob) J. Hughes serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. In this capacity, Mr. Hughes oversees the development, operation and maintenance of all TTB information technology systems.
Mr. Hughes is a twenty-seven year career employee with the U.S. Navy and the Federal Government. After graduating from Villanova University with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1981, Mr. Hughes spent sixteen years in the Navy as a nuclear submarine officer. Mr. Hughes then joined the Department of Defense and worked in weapons system design until 1999. From there, he worked for the Executive Office of the President as the Deputy Assistant Director of Information Systems and Technology. After completing work on a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering at George Washington University in 2000, Mr. Hughes joined the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and served as Chief of the Information Systems Division / Deputy CIO. He joined TTB in May 2003.
