Average Days to Complete (Original Applications)

This information is compiled to show the average turnaround time it takes TTB to process applications to operate new businesses.  The average number of days to process represents the average number of days elapsed from the date the National Revenue Center receives the application through the date that the applicant is approved to operate.  The approval process may include:

    • Initial evaluation of the application for completeness,
    • Background checks,
    • Field investigations,
    • Examination of equipment and premises,
    • Legal analysis of proposed operations.

The time necessary to process an application varies and typically, applications to operate a production or manufacturing plant take longer.  These statistics span the year-to-date period based on the Federal Government’s fiscal year (FY), October 1 – September 30 each year.
