Director, Office of Communications
Barbara Pearson is Director of the Office of Communications of the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). The Office of Communications creates and maintains accessible and diverse information required by TTB's external and internal customers, and builds awareness of TTB tools, services, and systems. Additionally, the Office of Communications manages and optimizes the content and services of the TTB public and internal websites.
Pearson most recently worked at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science as Associate Dean for External Relations, managing a staff that oversaw the school's public relations, event planning and execution, alumni relations, development, and website management. She also helped to develop the first High Dependability Computing Consortium with Carnegie Mellon, more than a dozen prominent high-tech companies, and NASA Ames.
As a manager, Pearson has worked in marketing and communications within the high-tech industry for 20 years, and was one of the first employees developing the online Prodigy Service – pre-World Wide Web. She has also marketed online mutual funds, electronic commerce, computer-aided engineering, and a patented technology within interactive games. She began her career as a Sears Catalog Copywriter, next worked in bank marketing, and then joined the non-profit National Energy Education Day (NEED) Project out of Reston, VA.
