Karen Freelove Selected as Chief, ALFD

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) Office of Headquarters Operations is pleased to announce the selection of Karen Theresa Freelove as Chief of the Advertising, Labeling and Formulation Division (ALFD). Ms. Freelove, a 24-year veteran of the former Alcohol and Tobacco Directorate, is well known and respected by both TTB and industry members alike.

Karen has an extensive wealth of knowledge and career experience relating to the advertising, labeling, formulation, and product integrity assurance of beverage alcohol. Karen's affinity for helping people combined with an ability to quickly "put her finger on the problem" provides a sound foundation for our customer service oriented organization. She understands the importance of being a good listener, and looks forward to the challenges of making a difference for both customers and employees.

Ms. Freelove was born and raised in nearby Maryland. She began her career with TTB predecessor, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) in 1979 as a clerk in the Alcohol and Tobacco Regulatory and Enforcement Branch. She soon became branch secretary before going on to become first a technical aide and then a labeling specialist in the Product Compliance Branch. Karen then held specialist positions in both the Special Programs and Market Compliance branches.

In February of 1992, Karen became label section Chief of the Product Compliance Branch where she remained for six years. In January of 1998, she became technical advisor and assistant to the chief of the Domestic and International Affairs Division. After four years, she came back to labeling in March of 2002, which was now reorganized and renamed the Alcohol Labeling and Formulation Division (ALFD).

Karen has served ALFD as Assistant Division Chief for the past year, helping to see us through the transition of the newly established Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, and the implementation of COLAs-Online.
