IN THIS ISSUE

Greetings! We hope you had a soaring and buoyant week! This week's top stories include announcements about the new "smart" version of the TTB winery operations report, a new information collection notice, FDA’s extension of the compliance date for menu labeling, and a list of the past week's top Pay.gov/ pages at TTB.gov/.

INTRODUCING TTB SMART FORM 5120.17sm, REPORT OF WINE PREMISES OPERATIONS

We are pleased to announce the release of a "smart" version of TTB Form 5120.17sm, Report of Wine Premises Operations, the wine industry’s most frequently downloaded form. You are welcome to use this smart version for the next submission of your winery operations report.

Smart features mean fewer errors!

Smart forms include built-in logic and automation features that simplify form completion and reduce errors.

The smart version of the winery operations report:

  • Performs most mathematical computations
  • Recognizes certain common errors and attempts to prevent you from making those errors
  • Requires you to complete all mandatory fields
  • Checks for errors in most fields; when errors are recognized, a popup window provides instructions for corrections.

Please review the Smart Form User Guide before using the smart form. After reviewing the guide, if you still have comments or concerns about the form, please send them to FormComments@ttb.gov/. We will consider all comments and make adjustments to the smart form as necessary.

FDA EXTENDS MENU LABELING COMPLIANCE DATE FOR ONE YEAR

In December 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a final rule requiring certain chain restaurants (those with 20 or more locations doing business under the same name, including franchises) and similar retail food establishments offering food for immediate consumption to include calorie information on menus and menu boards, in order to help consumers make informed decisions about meals and snacks.

The FDA's restaurant menu labeling requirement applies to food and to alcohol beverages and drinks offered as "standard menu items."

In response to requests from industry members, the FDA extended the compliance date for its menu labeling rule one year, from December 1, 2015, to December 1, 2016.

To learn more about the FDA menu labeling rule and the compliance date extension, see and FDA Federal Register Notice of July 10, 2015, the related FDA Constituent Update, and FDA Menu and Vending Machines Labeling Requirements.
