Greetings! This week's top news includes the appointment of Karen Welch as the new director of our International Affairs Division, an overview of TTB's organizational structure, and a reminder to complete our 2017 satisfaction survey.

KAREN WELCH SELECTED AS DIRECTOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Welch as the new Director of the International Affairs Division (IAD) in the Office of Headquarters Operations effective June 25, 2017. Ms. Welch has been Acting Director of IAD since March of this year.

Ms. Welch arrived at TTB in 2008, through the Presidential Management Fellows Program and rose through the ranks to Program Manager for International Issues, splitting her time between the Regulations and Rulings Division and the International Affairs Division.

Ms. Welch has managed bureau activities relating to the European Union and its Member States, and coordinated bureau activities relating to the World Wine Trade Group as well as negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and Trans-Pacific Partnership. In her nine years at TTB, she has also provided technical advice concerning the impact of international agreements on bureau regulations.

Ms. Welch has a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs from American University School of International Service and a Juris Doctor degree from American University Washington College of Law. Her undergrad degree in International Relations and History is from Boston University, where she graduated magna cum laude.
