IN THIS ISSUE

Greetings! This week's top news includes a "save the date" announcement about upcoming TTB Trade Practice seminars, updates to the winery operational report to reflect recent changes to the still wine tax class, a call for applications for the spring round of chemist certification for export analysis program, and news about a guilty plea in a TTB criminal case.

SAVE THE DATE: TTB TRADE PRACTICE SEMINARS

Have you ever wondered why TTB keeps mentioning "inducement" when we're talking about trade practices?  Are you concerned that you may be operating in violation of the "tied-house" rules?  Should you be?  What exactly are "consignment sales" anyway?

Come learn all this and more as TTB presents half-day Trade Practice Seminars, with a morning and afternoon session in each of these cities:

Miami, Florida – April 10, 2018
San Francisco, California – May 9, 2018
Chicago, Illinois – June 13, 2018
Boston, Massachusetts – July 18, 2018

Officials from the applicable state regulatory agencies will also be there to talk about trade practice enforcement from their state's perspective.

Space will be limited, and registration will open soon. Be sure to keep an eye on TTB.gov as well as the TTB Newsletter for more information on exact times, locations, and how to register!

NEW VERSIONS OF THE REPORT OF WINE PREMISES OPERATIONS NOW AVAILABLE

We have issued new versions of the Report of Wine Premises Operations to reflect the recent changes to the still wine tax class (increasing 14% to 16%).  These versions carry a "temporary" designation, since the changes to the still wine tax class currently only apply to wine removed during calendar years 2018 and 2019. The temporary versions are now available on TTB.gov and in Pay.gov.

Use the temporary version to report winery activity that occurs in calendar years 2018 and 2019.  Use the old version of the forms (available here) if you need to file an original or amended report of winery activity that occurred in calendar years 2017 or earlier.

Just a reminder that this form can be filed through Pay.gov!

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE SPRING 2018 CHEMIST CERTIFICATION FOR EXPORT ANALYSIS PROGRAM

TTB is accepting applications until April 1, 2018, for the spring 2018 round of the Chemist Certification Program.  See the TTB Announcement dated February 8, 2018, for details on how to apply.

TTB offers the Chemist Certification Program, where chemists in private industry are certified to analyze specific tests as listed in TTB Procedure 2010-1, to facilitate the export of beverage alcohol to foreign markets. Many countries accept a report of analysis from a TTB-certified chemist accompanying the export shipment as a condition of entry.

For more information on this program, including eligibility requirements and certification timelines, please refer to the Chemist Certification Program page at TTB.gov.
