Greetings! This week’s top news includes the selection of Kaori Flores as the new supervisor over distilled spirits and malt beverage labeling, information about an investigator job opening, two offers in compromise that were accepted following trade practice investigations, and a reminder to register for one of our upcoming trade practice seminars.

KAORI FLORES APPOINTED AS NEW ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OVER MALT BEVERAGE AND DISTILLED SPIRITS LABELING

We are pleased to announce that Kaori Flores is the new assistant director over malt beverage and distilled spirits labeling in the Alcohol Labeling and Formulation Division (ALFD). Ms. Flores started in this position on April 1, 2019.

Before becoming a federal employee, Ms. Flores served in the U.S. Air Force as an Operations Management Specialist. Ms. Flores’ federal experience includes working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). She transitioned to TTB in 2014, where she worked as a Regulations Specialist, concentrating mostly on beer and malt beverage issues, until being selected for this position in ALFD.

Ms. Flores has an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland University College and a Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.

TTB INVESTIGATOR JOB POSTING

We are seeking candidates to fill one investigator position in the commuting area of either Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington. No prior Federal experience is required.

Among other things, TTB investigators perform the following kinds of investigations:

  • Certificate of Label Approval (COLA) fraud
  • hidden ownership and fraudulent permit applications
  • trade practices
  • alcohol beverage product integrity

TTB ACCEPTS TWO OFFERS IN COMPROMISE FOR ALLEGED TRADE PRACTICE VIOLATIONS

We recently accepted a $350,000 offer in compromise from Brewers Distributing Company, a wholesaler in Peoria, Illinois, for alleged violations of the consignment sales and exclusive outlet provisions of the Federal Alcohol Administration (FAA) Act.

We also accepted $2.5 million offer in compromise from Heineken USA Incorporated for alleged violations of the exclusive outlet and tied house provisions of the Federal Alcohol Administration (FAA) Act.
