Specially Denatured Spirits Used for Laboratory or Mechanical Use

The following regulations apply when specially denatured spirits (SDS) are used for laboratory or mechanical purposes:

• No formula is required for SDA 3-A, 3-C, or 30.
• An electronic formula or formula on TTB F 5150.19 is required for all other SDA formulas.
• The formula must contain the following:
  • SDS formula number;
  • Description of the process;
  • Approximate annual quantity of SDS used in the process;
  • Composition and disposition of waste streams; and
  • A flow diagram may be included.
• The waste stream must be equivalent to completely denatured alcohol or an article if disposed off-site by a non-permittee.
