TTB signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of the Treasury's Office of Technical Assistance, which gives us the opportunity to support the Office of Technical Assistance with their responsibilities under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (Act) regarding alcohol and tobacco excise tax administration programs.

As the Nation's alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and ammunition excise tax authority, one of our priority objectives is the prevention of tax evasion and illicit trade in TTB-covered commodities. Failure to do so results in a significant drain on the Nation's revenue and undermines global economies and legitimate businesses everywhere.

TTB sharing its best practices with similarly situated officials in developing countries allows us to strengthen and expand contacts outside of the United States for information sharing and forward trace investigations related to TTB-regulated exported and imported products.

The MOA between TTB and the Office of Technical Assistance lays the ground rules of a positive cooperative effort to meet these objectives and ultimately to collect the revenue due and better combat cross-border illicit trade activities.
