Average Days to Process Permits Online Original Applications

This information is compiled to show the average turnaround time it takes TTB to process original commodity applications to operate new businesses. This data pertains to the segment of applications which are received through TTB's electronic application system, Permits Online (PONL). The processing times represent the average number of days elapsed from the date the National Revenue Center receives the application through the date that the application is dispositioned (approved to operate, abandoned, denied, or withdrawn). The application review process may include:

  • Initial evaluation of the application for accuracy and completeness,
  • Background checks,
  • Field investigations,
  • Examination of equipment and premises,
  • Legal analysis of proposed operations.

You can log into your Permits Online account at any time to check the status of your application. We suggest that you only call us to inquire about the status of your application if we have exceeded the average application processing times below. The time necessary to process an application varies and typically, applications to operate a production or manufacturing plant take longer to review. These statistics span the previous three months of available data.
