Reading the Chart

  • Claim Processing Time: Defined as median number of days it takes to process and pay your claim (in calendar days) – from the time we receive it until we either approve or deny it (in full or in part) and issue your refund. This includes any time spent addressing errors or requesting additional supporting documentation.

Expect processing delays if we need additional information related to your claim submission. We review claims in the order we received them. The time necessary to process a claim will vary depending on claim type and submission volume.

We suggest that you only contact us to inquire about the status of your claim if we have exceed the customer service standard.

  • CBMA Importer Claims: Includes claims filed using the alternate procedure authorized for importers under specific circumstances (“manual claim submissions”). Expect processing delays for manual claim submissions as they require additional TTB review.
  • All Other Tax Claims: Includes claims for overpayments, lost or destroyed products, product returned to bond, export drawback, cash bonds, and abatement of tax.
