Why would I connect my Permits Online account to an identity provider (IDP)?
ID.me and Login.gov provide phishing-resistant, multi-factor authentication (MFA), which enhances security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of verification. This sign-in method reduces the risk of falling victim to phishing attacks that attempt to steal login credentials.
- If you already use one of these IDPs for access to other Federal agencies or services, you may find it more convenient to use a single set of credentials for Permits Online as well.
- If you do not already have an account with ID.me or Login.gov, you will need to create an account with one of these IDPs before you can connect your Permits Online account to your new credentials.
Will my current Permits Online processes change?
You will use a new sign-in page after you set up your identity-verified credentials and connect your Permits Online account.
Note: You may connect multiple Permits Online accounts to your identity-verified credentials.
What will I need during the setup process?
- You may need to provide proof of your identity (like a driver’s license or passport) if you have not been identity-verified by Login.gov or ID.me.
