Needs a Formula
Distilled Spirits Specialty Products require formulas. When submitting your formula, select “Distilled Spirits Specialty Products” as your Recommended Class/Type and provide a provisional Statement of Composition like “Vodka with Natural Flavors and Certified Color” in the Production Description field to reflect the distilled spirits, flavors, colors, and artificial sweeteners used to make your specialty. Your label will need to show a statement of composition with the brand name, fanciful name, and alcohol content. After your formula is approved, refer to the Results Tab under Determination and Labeling Instructions to review your TTB-approved statement of composition that you may include on your label.
If the name of your product is known to consumers and contains only natural flavors, you can also select “Distilled Spirit Specialty Products/Cocktails” as your Recommended Class/Type and provide the name of your cocktail and the name of the distilled spirit/s used in the Product Description field of FONL. If your formula shows that your product has been approved as a “cocktail” you can use a reduced statement of composition on your label, e.g., Manhattan Made with Whisky, Vermouth, and Bitters.
Note: Imported distilled spirits made with hemp and imported distilled spirits in powdered form also require laboratory sample analysis (https://www.ttb.gov/formulation/formula-approval-with-laboratory-sample-analysis). For these products, you must also complete all required information in the Samples tab and submit your sample to the TTB laboratory.
Imported distilled spirits made with any ingredient that typically contains thujone (e.g., artemisia (wormwood), tansy, yarrow) require Formula approval and must be “thujone-free” by containing less than 10 parts per million thujone.
